Mentored a team of community leaders from Sierra Leone to establish a not for profit organisation in Brimbank. Kontiki Cultural Women Empowerment is grass roots community development project that engages women of refugee backgrounds and supports them to build their financial capability, literacy and numeracy skills and enhance their understanding of their human rights utilising sewing as a medium.
The group has gone from strength to strength, from their humbling start in 2014, they have come a long way. They won the We Are Brimbank Award in 2019, have been sponsored by Virgin Australia to participate in Melbourne Fashion Week events a few years in a row and have become a recognisable name both in the community and corporate sector. They are a force to be reckoned with.
